At 15 km from Subiaco there is Monte Livata ski
center, also called "the Mountain of Rome". Although there are ski-systems
with tracks of various difficulty, the mountain is lend optimal for the nordic ski
ski. In fact, there are a lot of tracks where there are played national contests, too.
NORDIC SKI - The tracks
are essentially 4, three accredited rings F.I.S.I. of 5, 10 and 15 km respective
(in 1977, the Italian Absolute Championships and in 1987 and 1992 have been
carried out the Italian Aspirants Championships) and one that leaves from Campo
dell'Osso, arrives to the skilift of Monna dell'Orso, until going towards Field
Minium, where there is the country road (in the winter season classified for
the cross-country ski, in the summer for the trekking) that take to Mount Autore.
From here there are a lot of routes, but you must have a small map for orientation.
DOWNHILL
SKI - The first skilifts are in Monte Livata, but unfortunately
they are often sluices the exposure to the sun and the height not very high
(1450 mt). However, from this year, it has been experienced a synthetic
snow that would concurs of ski also with little snow. No problems instead
are at Campo dell'Osso and Monna dell'Orso. In the first one there are two
skilifts, more adapted for beginners, plus the skilift "Valletta"
that communicates with Monte Livata ones. At Monna dell'Orso, instead, a
double skilift with six tracks concurs of ski from December to April to
beginners, experts and snowboard-men.
Canoe
The sliding
of the river Aniene, at times slow, at times very fast, the scent of its
crystalline waters, the shining colors of the soundings full of rocks
or covered of the most fine sands, the charming lights of the valley,
the immensity of the mounts that surpass it and they frame it, the wealth
of the surrounding flora cannot be known if you are not single with the
river. Ideals for the canoe kayak are the multiple cascades near S. Antonio,
even if are possible to make many kilometers until reaching to Agosta.
For the beginners, but also for most expert, there
is a canoe school that offers fafting excursions and can be contacted
for downhill runs along the small lake of S. Benedict. For the rafting
(come down in rubber dinghy for a way of river of 2 Km), the downhill
run along water sections where it can be played and water sections more
calm, the jump of the bridge of Saint Francisco of approximately 1.5 metres.
It is an activity opened to all, entertaining and secure.
Fishing
The Aniene river accommodates exclusively fario
trouts, because the cold temperature of waters. In the high part the river is
smaller and tortuos, with sections not easy reachable. Here there is a classified
section to fly-fishing, of type "catch and release".
After Subiaco, instead, there are also less impetuous
sections of river, easy reachable with the sublacense road.
Other sports
Many other sport can be played the Simbruini Mounts's Park: free
climbing, equitation, hiking, trekking, tennis, soccer..., in order to cite
the most known. The beautiful beechwoods of Mount Livata, beyond for healthy
walks, constitutes the ideal land for the orientation.
